an artefact triggering personal stories by interacting with it. It enables reliving a moment in a total experience

Project info

Nowadays, blind and visually impaired people are much more dependent on public transport, family and/or friends to get them from A to B. The fully autonomous car, in which presumably no driver's license will be obligatory, will give them freedom in traveling independently, whenever and wherever they like. This will be beneficial in itself, and creates opportunities for new experiences while traveling from A to B.

Researching the blind and visually impaired, it became clear that difficulties occur when one is physically blind, but emotionally still lunges for visual stimuli. These people focus on all the visual aspects that aren't accessible anymore. In this a reduced sense of relatedness can be experienced.

This is where Re_nder comes into play. It provides a personalised artefact triggering a personal story through interacting with it. This enables reliving a moment in a total experience. Explore the beauty of non-visual stimuli and feel more related to the ones and moments you love.

Key points

  • A personal interest to learn about different people from different milieus. I get energy from challenging myself with a difficult subject, diving into a certain target group, gaining knowledge and empathy throughout many different activities and sources
  • A process with extensive user involvement throughout multiple phases of the process, by means of different qualitative data methods, like semi-structured interviews analysed with coding, co-constructing story method and focus group session
  • Creating a total experience in which abstract and concrete elements have to be in balance. Concrete elements are important to spontaneously recall a memory, abstract elements allow a certain freedom of interaction
  • Collaboration with multiple stakeholders (target group, MuZIEum, Blind institute, blind-fair, competitors) to be able to create products that are user valuable, technical feasible, business viable.
